Involve your school/university
Calling all teachers, students, parents, and educators! Help young refugees access quality education through supporting Amala within your school or university community. Schools and universities can play an important role in supporting Amala’s work through:
Advocacy and learning opportunities
Did you know that only 1 in 3 displaced young people have access to secondary education, and only 6% to higher education? If you, like us are shocked by this, we challenge you to advocate for fair treatment of refugees and the importance of education for refugee youth.
Some ideas:
Hold an Amala presentation on campus, using this awareness pack!
Research refugee education in your local area/country and share your findings with the school or university community
Share Amala’s work with others via social media
If you want to know more about what students have been doing to support Amala so far, you can check out the UWC South East Asia Amala student group blog.
Fundraising
Support Amala students to continue their education through fundraising within your school or university community. You could put on an Amala lunch on campus or hold a quiz. To make it super easy you can even set up your own Just Giving Page.
Some ideas:
Make Amala your school or university’s chosen charity partner if your school has an annual class gift or similar initiative. Our partner school UWC South East Asia in Singapore raised $3,000 in 2019 by including Amala as their chosen class gift.
Put on our Refugee Challenge Quiz to raise awareness about refugee issues, while raising money at the same time by asking for a contribution from each person who enters.
Put on an ‘Amala’ lunch on campus with home-cooked food and ask for a contribution!
