Safeguarding

Amala is committed to and has a responsibility to safeguard the welfare of all our community members, as well as others who come into contact with us, from harm.

Everyone in Amala has responsibility for safeguarding, and our policies are aligned to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, relevant legislation in the countries where we work, and recommendations from Keeping Children Safe and the International Task Force on Child Protection.

We expect all individuals, groups, organisations and companies affiliated with our community to act with integrity and to take responsibility for keeping students safe. In line with these expectations, everyone who applies for positions at Amala (whether voluntary or paid) must be willing to undergo background and safeguarding checks relevant to their role.

We have a zero-tolerance approach to any harm or exploitation of a child or a young person by our staff, volunteers, representatives or partners in face-to-face and online environments. All Amala’s team members are:

  • Aware of the dangers and risks of abuse

  • Committed to preventing harm to young people

  • Able to report and respond to concerns about student safety and welfare.
