Patience is a 17 year old Amala alumnus from Cameroon. She participated in our Peacebuilding in your Community course that we ran with our partner, BRIGHT, last year. She has now been accepted into the Goodwill Fellowship, a programme, which strives to empower and inspire young leaders across Africa to create growth within their communities.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

My name is Fru Patience Ndeusse, I am from the Northwest region of Cameroon, but live in Yaounde due to the anglophone crisis. I am from a family of five and the first born of my parents. I intend to be a mechanical engineer and a change maker not just for myself but for my community too.

Did you enjoy Amala’s Peacebuilding course? How did you feel when you started the course compared to when you finished it?

Yes, I enjoyed the course so much. When I started the course, I felt interested but very curious asking myself, what will be the outcome of this. Now l feel impacted, different, and above all motivated. No matter the challenges, I can do it.

What skills did you learn on the course?

The skills I laerned from the course include;

a.) Mindset for Peace. No matter the situation, the abundance mindset is the best to adopt.

b.)Approach to conflict (Conflict Transformation). The manner in which we approach conflict matters a lot, it can either lead to a positive or negative outcome.

c.)And lastly. Barriers to Peace, personal experiences can act as a barrier to peace or stop peace from being achieved.

This is not all my skills, I just wanted to name a few.

Did you create connections/friendships with your fellow learners?

Yes, the friendship and connection is a long lasting one, interesting and interactive.

Since completing the course, do you feel more confident overall? Why?

Yes, I feel and I have more confidence in myself, because now I have enough resources and skills provided to me by Amala to go out there and implement what I have, to change and to impact my community. Amala has really helped me with new skills and knowledge to help and impact my community in a positive way.

Would you recommend Amala’s course to a friend? What would you say to them?

Yes. Not just to my friend but to everyone around me. I will tell them that Amala is an international high school curriculum to help the internally displaced. It provides resources, skills and the knowledge to impact their community. It empowers future leaders (changemakers) and shows them the green light to impact their communities.

What are your aspirations for the future?

My aspirations are to; become a mechanical engineer, a changemaker, become someone who can impact my community and lastly, help my family and everyone around me.

Anything else you want to say?

I pray Amala and Bright do not end here and l promise to come back to impact the future changemaker in and across Africa. Thanks for everything, may god bless you.
