Cohort five begin their journey on the Amala High School Diploma in Amman, Jordan
This week, our fifth cohort of Amala High School Diploma students started their Amala journey.
As with every cohort of Amala students, they hail from all over the world: this cohort includes young people from Iraq, Yemen, Somalia, Syria, Eritrea, Tunisia and Sudan. Two new Learning Facilitators and Amala alumni join the team to run courses for this new cohort. Adhraa and Abdelhamid, both graduates from the third cohort, join the team in Jordan and bring the skills they developed on the Diploma and their experience outside of Amala to pass onto the next generation of Amala students. They join a team of facilitators, some of whom are also fellow Amala alumni.
“It’s really inspiring to witness the spark of hope and determination in their eyes. Being a student just eighteen months ago and today work side by side with a fellow classmate and two of my former students. I eagerly anticipate the remarkable journeys these new students are about to embark on in the coming months and where they would go.”

The students are eager and enthusiastic about the learning that is to come. Wahib, who is 21 and from Somalia, said: “the main reason I applied for the Amala program is that I did not complete my studies, and I found that the Amala Diploma is a very nice opportunity to make up for my missed studies. Also, my first impression was great about the courses and other things”.
Ali, who is Somali-Yemeni, said, “I feel really in the right place.” Abdulrahman, from Yemen, said that “Amala is not a place to study only, it’s a family also”. We are delighted that our new students feel so at home already and we look forward to seeing them grow their skills, agency and ideas over the next fifteen months.
