Pathway to accreditation: Amala becomes a member of Council of International Schools
We are proud to share that Amala has become a member of the Council of International Schools (CIS), a global membership community working collaboratively to shape international education. CIS provides a range of services to schools, higher education institutions and individuals, and provides a unique international accreditation with a focus on the development of students as global citizens.
Amala has undergone a rigorous process to become a CIS member by demonstrating our commitment to provide a high quality international education and to provide students with the knowledge, skills and abilities to pursue their lives as global citizens. The membership process involved a self-evaluation of Amala’s policies and practices with the CIS core membership standards, a review of documentation by CIS and a week-long virtual visit by CIS staff members to Amala’s High School Diploma sites in Jordan and Kenya.
Amala is now part of the CIS community of more than 1,300 schools and universities, representing 123 countries. Membership means that Amala will now be able to pursue CIS International Accreditation, the quality and rigour of which is recognised by Ministries, departments of education, and universities around the world. Amala will embark upon this process in the coming months in collaboration with the CIS team.
Polly Akhurst, Co Executive Director of Amala said: “This is a milestone in Amala’s organisational development. The process has validated the work we have done to date in providing high quality education for crisis-affected youth and has helped us to see where we can do better. CIS membership moves us a big step closer towards offering an accredited high school diploma programme which has been an ambition since we started Amala. We are so excited to actively participate in the CIS member community and to collaborate with the CIS team on next steps.”
Mary Powell, School Support and Evaluation Officer of CIS said: “During our visit, we found a community of learners who are not entering Amala for themselves. They have ambitions and they want to improve their own futures but they are really engaging in this learning process to impact their communities and their families. This is a community of people who are ready to impact the world around them. I’m very much looking forward to seeing Amala grow in the future and impact more students.”
