Our name is changing

2020 will be a landmark year for us and represents a moment of transition and growth. During the year, we will embark on a new stage of our journey with the launch of our High School Diploma Programme in Jordan and Kenya. As we move into this next phase, we are changing our name and will now be known as Amala.

While the name Sky School has positive associations for many people, we have several reasons for making  this change now. The initial thinking about a name change was prompted by legal issues associated with trademarking the name Sky School in the UK and internationally. However, over the last two years, as we have evolved as an organisation and refined our purpose, we have found that the name Sky School no longer describes who we are or what we do.

Amala, which is inspired by the Arabic word for both “hope” and “bird”, reflects the hope and opportunity that our education provides. Our new tagline, Education for Change, reflects our mission of inspiring change in the lives of refugees and their communities by creating opportunities through our transformative educational programmes. We are looking forward to continuing to work with all our supporters and partners to enable displaced youth to access individual Amala courses and the new Amala Diploma Programme.
